This study seeks to recognize the social representations of the consumption of independent music on transmission platforms of the genre World Beat in Bogotá, based on the transition of the market, where the independent musician, perform as an interpreter, producer and marketer of his music.
With a sequential mixed methodology, look at the "network of relationships, potential orientators of social interactions between different groups." (Palacios, 2012, p.181) in this case musicians, consumers and intermediaries. In the qualitative phase, associations and meanings of representations with independent musicians, record companies and academics are explored. In the quantitative phase, it is addressed to users of transmission platforms, which allows to identify the structure of the representation, where the platforms are recognized as a promotional tactic for the musicians sector and an access technology for users. In no case is the use of transmission platforms perceived as distribution or monetization channels.
